Everyone Deserves a Decent Home in a Healthy Neighborhood

For almost 20 years, ReBUILD Metro has been dedicated to working with communities of East Baltimore to restore their abandoned houses and vacant lots into new homes, greenspaces, and community assets. Working block by block and neighborhood by neighborhood, our “whole blocks” approach to community revitalization has reduced local vacancy rates by over 90%, transforming these areas into healthy, growing communities of opportunity where new and legacy residents can thrive.

Good Homes Change Lives

ReBUILD’s homes have given hundreds of families opportunities they never thought possible.

“The house has been amazing! We got here and it was fully furnished, everything is brand new.”

— Eunice

“I’ve lived here for over 40 years. I love Mura Street, and I love my house. This is where I live, and this is where I’ll be staying, hopefully until I die.”

— Sharon

“The Legacy Homeowner Repair Program is breaking economic barriers for me. It’s like a new start on life for me. I feel like my prayers have been answered.”

— Martia

“I’m just so happy to see everything come together, and I can’t wait to get new neighbors.”

— Ms. Wheeler

“This work is a testament to what is possible in Baltimore when residents…are empowered with the partnerships and resources they need to realize their bold dreams and visions for their neighborhoods. What is happening in Johnston Square should allow us to think big about what is possible in Baltimore.”

— Brandon Scott

Mayor of Baltimore

“They are organizing money, but they are also organizing community and bringing everybody along. When I think about Johnston Square, I think that it’s the epitome of what success looks like in Baltimore City, and the expectation that I would like to see in all of my neighborhoods.”

— Cory McCray

Maryland State Senator

“The people of Johnston Square want what everybody else wants. They want a great neighborhood. They want recreation for their children. They want nice homes. They want good jobs. They want to feel safe in their community. And we are slowly but surely working to make that happen.”

— Regina Hammond

Executive Director, Rebuild Johston Square Neighborhood Organization

“Living in our house and in the area has been very peaceful. We haven’t had any concerns. We feel safe, and the neighbors are very welcoming. We can’t wait to get home from work every day.”

— Johnston Square Homebuyer

“I’m so thankful for the legacy homeowner program. I could never have afforded to repair my home. This is the first time I’ve actually enjoyed being downstairs in my home in six years.”

— Lillian

25-Year Johnston Square Legacy Homeowner

“We’ve had many joint ventures over the years, but it is seldom we find a partner that has that same determination to get a project done as ReBUILD. We are taking on some of the worst abandoned houses in Baltimore, and we are doing what others fear to do.”

— Chris McCoy

President, C.L. McCoy Framing Co.

“This is a promise of hope right here. This is not dead grass; it is growing grass. These are not dead trees; they are growing trees. These are not ‘out’ lights; they are new lights. This is not something we have to turn our heads from, but something we can look upon and be proud of.”

— ReBUILD Resident

at 2021 Celebration of Robert and Alice Stokes Triangle Park

Kiara

“Now I can walk to work, and I can walk my daughter to school. I feel happy to be waking up here every day and feeling like ‘this is my home.’ I just cannot believe it’s mine.”

— Kiara
