ReBUILD Metro has completed the renovation of the first four properties of our 1700 East Biddle Project in East Baltimore’s Broadway East/Eager Park community. These fully restored three-bedroom rowhomes will offer four new homeownership opportunities just three blocks from Johns Hopkins Hospital. Beyond the high-quality housing and convenient location they will offer to their new occupants, these properties serve as another step forward our progress in rebuilding the surrounding Broadway East/Eager Park community, which a decade ago was severely distressed and abandoned, but is now almost fully reoccupied and is providing a decent quality of life to dozens of families. Importantly, our redevelopment strategy has restored this area into a healthy mixed-income community without causing any displacement. Our aim is to eliminate all remaining vacancy in this area within the next two years.
We have already made progress on the renovation of the remaining five abandoned properties on this block, which we will convert into four more new homeownership opportunities. When completed, the 1700 block of East Biddle Street will represent yet another block of East Baltimore that we have helped transform from abandonment to opportunity.
