ReBUILD is proud to share that we have eliminated abandonment in our Broadway East Reinvestment area, one of the first East Baltimore areas we targeted for revitalization. In finalizing renovation of the last 5 abandoned homes on the 1700 block of East Preston Street—which received support from Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development, the Baltimore Mayor’s Office of Recovery Programs, and the Sherman Family Foundation—we have restored another “whole block” in East Baltimore where nobody lives next to an abandoned home. Our total redevelopment 80 homes in this formerly blighted area of Broadway East—and almost 200 across our 10-block Oliver/Broadway East redevelopment area—has now reduced local residential vacancies by over 90% since 2011.
