Transformation is coming to the 700 block of Mura

Transformation is coming to the 700 block of Mura Street in Johnston Square—and it’s being driven by the community.

Today, we officially launched Mura Street Homes, the next phase in Johnston Square’s rebirth. By combining and restoring 18 abandoned rowhouses, this “whole block” redevelopment will create 10 beautiful new homeownership opportunities, eliminating decades of vacancy while uplifting the block’s legacy residents and preserving what makes the block special. 🏡

This project reflects the vision and resilience of @rebuildjohnstonsquare and Johnston Square residents. We are thankful for the partnership of these neighbors and the dozens of supporters who are helping to bring this project to life. Special thanks to @senatormccray, @smith4delegate, @youngdelegate, @councilmanjjones, @bmoredhcd, and @marylandhousing, whose Homeownership Works pilot program is making this project possible. Thanks also to our builders at @clipperconstruction and all of our other project partners.

(@mural_masters_inc) and chosen by the Oliver community—is part of an East Biddle Street Arts Corridor, a placemaking partnership with @baltimoreoliver, @rebuildjohnstonsquare, and @broadwayeastcommunity to beautify our blocks, celebrate neighborhood identity, calm traffic, and spark safe and inclusive growth—without displacement.

Thanks to @mdartscouncil and @marylandhousing for supporting this symbol of heritage and hope—which will be seen by thousands every day.

It was incredibly inspiring to gather at the @baltimoremuseumofart on Saturday evening to honor the everyday heroes of Johnston Square alongside @senatormccray and fellow city and state leaders. The evening was a powerful reminder of the impact of community champions like Regina and Keith Hammond, Lil Trotman, Lynn Powell, and Pastor Ray Cotton—leaders who show us every day what transformation truly looks like.

We’re beyond excited that their portraits will soon have a permanent home in the new Johnston Square branch of the @prattlibrary.
