A Pathway to Homeownership

ReBUILD’s Path to Own program is a free resource designed to help aspiring homebuyers achieve their goals of homeownership while building generational wealth in growing communities.

Homeownership Is Possible

Many Baltimore families are closer than they realize to being able to buy their first home. Path to Own offers aspiring homebuyers individualized support in obtaining the training, resources, financing, and incentives they need to achieve sustainable homeownership. Throughout the process, we help individuals build faith that homeownership is within their reach.

The Advantages of Homeownership

By completing the pathway to homeownership, you can achieve the following benefits:

  • Becoming homebuyer-ready helps you build financial knowledge and confidence. When you own your home, you can alter it how you like. Your mortgage payments will be predictable from year to year. You can plant roots and ensure you have stable housing in the community you choose. As your home gains value, your wealth and financial security will grow.

By accessing tailored mortgage products and Baltimore’s variety of down payment assistance programs, many homebuyers can realize all of these benefits without experiencing an increase in their monthly housing costs.

Supporting Those who Face the Greatest Barriers

ReBUILD recognizes that generations of African American Baltimoreans have faced especially great systemic barriers and discriminatory practices that have prevented them from having equal access to homeownership. With a focus on ReBUILD Metro residents and other residents in the East Baltimore neighborhoods we serve, we designed Path to Own to foster a more equitable Baltimore where all people and families are able to build wealth as their neighborhoods grow.

How Path to Own Works

Path to Own begins by helping participants to assess their financial situations and to determine what they need to do to become ready to purchase a home. If homeownership is within reach, Path to Own works to break down barriers by offering the following resources and guidance:

  • Homebuyer Workshops: We provide introductory workshops to help homebuyers gain a basic understanding of what the process involves and how it works.
  • Homebuying Counseling: We support participants in connecting with HUD-certified counseling programs, helping them access the knowledge and guidance they need to overcome their uncertainties and to prepare for successful homeownership.
  • Lending and Financial Resources: We connect participants with mortgage programs that offer advantageous first-time homebuyer incentives, and we help them access an array of down payment assistance programs that can bring their down payment costs close to zero.
  • One-on-One Support: We check in regularly with participants to assess their progress and help them work towards their next step in accessing an affordable mortgage, identifying a home, and overcoming any other obstacles they may be facing.

“Now I can walk to work, and I can walk my daughter to school. I feel happy to be waking up here every day and feeling like ‘this is my home.’ I just cannot believe it’s mine.”

We are so proud to share that @bmorearchitecture h We are so proud to share that @bmorearchitecture has presented ReBUILD Metro with the beautiful (and very heavy!) 2026 Golden Griffin Award in honor of our contribution to the built environment through our revitalization of East Baltimore neighborhoods. We will be proudly displaying this award in our office for the next year.

It is an honor to be recognized as we continue striving to show that, by relying on community-driven redevelopment and a commitment to quality, any Baltimore neighborhood can achieve the block-by-block network of high-quality homes, buildings, and public spaces that ensure their residents and families feel valued and have opportunities to thrive.

In addition, we joined @quinnevans.qe, Somerset Development Company, New Community Partners, and @prattlibrary in accepting the Baltimore AIA’s 2026 Design Award for Social Equity, which recognized the role of the Hammond at Greenmount Park for its inclusive community-driven approach to design and development and for its impact on the health and wellbeing of its residents and the broader Johnston Square community.

In creating “Mura Street Dream”, Yewande Kotun Dav In creating “Mura Street Dream”, Yewande Kotun Davis spent hours working with longtime residents of the 700 block of Mura Street to design a piece of public art that would honor the generations of stories that permeate the walls and beams of Mura Street’s century-old rowhouses—but that would also celebrate a NEW DAY on the block as we have given these houses new life, and as they become homes for Johnston Square’s next generation.

We think the result is beautiful.

A model “whole block” redevelopment should not only eliminate vacancy and blight: it should nurture connection and community among all of its residents; it should offer its families a beautiful and enriching public realm; and it should honor the decades of history of a longstanding block even as it transforms into something new.

We think Mura Street can be that model “whole block”.

We’ll be celebrating the rebirth of this long-distressed historic Johnston Square block next Thursday, October 29 at 1:30pm

Join us to celebrate the revitalization of the 700 Join us to celebrate the revitalization of the 700 block of Mura Street!

Our Mura Street Homes redevelopment has converted 18 abandoned and boarded rowhouses into 10 new homes, eliminating vacancy on a block that had faced decades of blight and deterioration.

We are putting the final touches on the last of these rehabs, and we are ready to celebrate this major leap forward in Johnston Square’s rebirth! With the completion of Mura Street Homes, we will bring Johnston Square’s vacancy rate down to 10% for the first time in decades.

Mura Street Homes is much more than one block renewed; it is bedrock in a comprehensive community-wide redevelopment strategy, and it is a standard for our vision for “whole block” revitalization without displacement: a process of regeneration that puts community first and creates opportunity for all.

Join Us to celebrate this milestone and to see inside one of these new homes!

What a 20th Anniversary Celebration! A birthday b What a 20th Anniversary Celebration!

A birthday belongs to an individual—but an anniversary celebrates something we build TOGETHER. So when we came together with 150 of our neighbors, partners, friends, and community members to celebrate ReBUILD Metro’s 20th Anniversary last week, it was a celebration of all of us and how we have been rebuilding Baltimore’s neighborhoods TOGETHER. How we have changed Baltimore’s story TOGETHER. How we are proving that transformational community-driven redevelopment is possible TOGETHER.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to celebrate this milestone with us, to everyone who has made our work possible for the last two decades, and to every one of you who continues to believe in a brighter future for all of Baltimore's families and communities.

Special thanks to:
